南瓜

萬聖節一定想起南瓜。

南瓜又有多個別名，金瓜、番瓜、飯瓜、麥瓜、倭瓜等。南瓜有很多品種，很多不同吃法，如爽身的有機南瓜可用來煲湯，清甜軟身的貝貝南瓜可用來做甜品，甚至可以連皮吃。另外有些媽媽會來買有機南瓜，製作南瓜蓉給嬰兒吃。

南瓜含豐富維他命，其中的胡蘿蔔素（β），長者經常食用可減低視力衰退機會，男士多吃，亦有助防止前列腺疾病。《本草綱目》載，南瓜能補中益氣、消炎止痛、化痰排膿、解毒殺蟲，清代醫師更認為南瓜是補血妙品。而南瓜的種子亦可製成南瓜子，有紓緩高血壓與驅除寄生蟲的功效。

不過也順帶一提，南瓜屬濕熱之身，所含的胡蘿蔔素若過量食用，會令色素滲入體內，連灰姑娘都會變成黃面婆。

智吃大閘蟹防超標

每年到了中秋前後，識歎海鮮之人，不少都愛勁食大閘蟹，於其當造季節大快櫢頤，往往因此而忽略了健康的問題。在大家正忙於赴會蟹宴之前，且先聽營養師與中醫師提供的健康建議，自可口福與美味兼得。

每天不多於一隻

按照世界缳生組織的標準，成年人每天的膽固醇攝取量上限不應超過三百毫克；於一隻大閘蟹約含二百至三百毫克膽固醇的情況下，註冊營養師鄭雅新建議，成年人每天不宜進食超過一隻。當造期間，大家或許會經常進食大閘蟹，若希望在飲食上取得平衡，便該相應地避免進食其他高膽固醇的食物，包括蛋黃、魷魚及墨魚 等。

人體中七成的膽固醇由肝臟製造，三成則來自食物，健康的成年人若偶爾過量進食大閘蟹，攝取了過量的膽固醇，身體機能是可以自動作出調節的。可是，若持續性地處於這個情況，身體會無法有效地自我調節，有機會因膽固醇水平過高而導致血管栓塞，從而形成中風 及心血管疾病，如冠心病等。

1. 大閘蟹含豐富蟹膏，故膽固醇含量較其他蟹類為高。
2. 營養師鄭雅新指出，大閘蟹主要成分為蛋白質 ，脂肪含量不是太高。蟹肉的膽固醇含量較一般肉類為高。成年人每天不宜進食多於一隻大閘蟹。
3. 食大閘蟹後，宜避免吃其他高膽固醇食物，包括墨魚。
4. 過重人士應特別注意大閘蟹的進食分量。
5. 大閘蟹與啤酒同屬寒性，不應一併享用。

六類人應少吃

以下類型人士，宜謹守吃大閘蟹的分量，否則很容易會增加身體機能的負荷，因此而誘發其他相關的疾病；這班高危一族包括：高膽固醇、三酸甘油脂過高、過重、患有心臟病 與心血管疾病、高血壓等人士，以及長者。

吃大閘蟹健康守則

1. 與其他含有膏的海鮮，如蝦與龍蝦一樣，大閘蟹的烹調方法以清蒸最為健康。避免使用芝士來焗製或油炸等含高飽和脂肪的煮法，以免令體內的血脂升高。
2. 大閘蟹生長於湖底，以進食腐爛微生物為主，容易附有寄生蟲與細菌，因此千萬別生吃，烹調時最少要蒸煮二十至三十分鐘。
3. 當蟹類所含的蛋白質與鞣酸結合，容易形成凝塊，造成消化不良與腹脹等情況，故別於食大閘蟹時一併進食高鞣酸的食材，如柿子、山楂及濃茶等。
4. 在經常吃大閘蟹的期間，宜多進食麥皮、水果、乾豆類等含高水溶性纖維的食物，有助帶走體內過多的膽固醇。

傳統飲茶驅肥膩宜忌

食月餅通常配以中國茶，譚醫師解釋，據科學分析，茶葉含有單寧酸、茶多酚、胡蘿蔔素、蛋白質 、維他命、碳水化合物及游離氨基酸等，當中的單寧酸具有消滯之效。茶類分綠茶、中國紅茶及花茶三大類別。

綠茶：消滯功效最強，為無發酵茶，如香片、龍井和日本 綠茶，綠茶氣味清香，偏寒。當中龍井比香片更寒涼，所以體質偏寒，時常感冒者和老人家等宜少喝。

中國紅茶：消滯功效次於綠茶，在製茶葉時比綠茶多了一個發酵的程序，常見有普洱、壽眉。紅茶偏溫，適合老人家和體質虛弱的人士，年輕人多飲亦無妨。

花茶：消滯功效較弱，一般指將花瓣加入其中混合而成的茶，或單獨把花瓣沖水飲用，常見有玫瑰花和茉莉花。花茶可行氣及具美容療效，又有令人放鬆心情的作用，適合愛美和工作壓力大的人士飲用。

Welcome Dau Dau (Beanie)

Dau Dau (豆豆) is my new car. She is a new Mini Cooper in red with white roof. Dau means 'Bean' in Cantonese, because she looks like a red bean so I give her this name.

This morning, We picked her up from the Mini dealer. She was in the show room and looked very stunning. I could not believed she was my baby until I saw the number plate.

Dau Dau is my first brand new car and was custom made for me. I am so excited and can not wait to drive her around. She is bigger than Ah Mui so I have to pay extra attention when I drive. In fact, any car would be bigger than Ah Mui, right?

Bye Bye Ah Mui

Ah Mui (阿妹) was my Smart Car. Ah Mui means little sister / little girl in Cantonese. Since she was so small and compact, I gave her this name. We looked after her like our little sister.

Ah Mui had been with us for 3 years. She took me to work every weekdays and took us food shopping every Saturday.

Although she was not a faster runner, I still loved her. I think she is perfect for city drive.

This morning was time to say goodbye to her. I felt sad that she left us, but I know her new owner Rosie will take care of her.

在第五屆世界華文中學生微型小說創作大賽中，陳瑞彬的作品《一百元的旅程》在3000多件參賽作品中脫穎而出，獲初中組金獎。

一百元的旅程

　　“得知你家困難，寄錢一百略表寸心。”不行，不行，他一筆劃掉，擰眉沉思片刻重新寫道：“不要問錢從哪來，治病要緊，別拖了。”不行，還是能看出來。他用筆敲一下頭：怎麼措辭才好呢？

　　“已經下班了。”郵局的營業員催促。

　　“就好。”筆尖在匯款單附言欄划動著：“不要問錢從哪來，把它用在最緊要的地方吧。好心人。”

　　走出郵局，他長長地吁了口氣。到學校快一個月了，媽還病著麼？唉，媽怎麼就不聽勸呢？不能怕花錢就不治病呀！爹竟幫媽說話，難道沒看見媽病痛的樣子麼？以後會治，總是以後，以後是哪一天呢？他嘆了口氣。

　　來城裏上學時，爹非要把最後的五十元錢再給他帶上。那怎麼行呢？我帶得已經夠多了。你說別人家的孩子一學期花多少，這哪能比呢？我不是他們，咱 家也不是別人家呀。真的夠了！爹，你別難過，媽看見又要流淚了。我會吃好的，會看護好自己，會常給家裏寫信。他眼裏閃著淚花，扭頭看看身邊，行人匆匆，沒 有人注意他。

　　開學後，學校評學習標兵。他沒有想到學校一下子獎給他一百元！拿到錢，他第一個念頭就是把這錢給家裏，讓媽媽治病。但是怎麼寄呢？想來想去，他決定以“好心人”的名義把錢“捐”給家裏。

　　有了這一百塊錢，再借點兒，媽總可以去看一下病買些藥了。對，一定要讓媽去治病，不能再拖了。得寫封信再勸一下他們，今晚就寫！他想著，似乎媽已經去了醫院，病也已經好起來了。他臉上露出一絲淺淺的笑。

　　太陽的余暉快褪盡了。火燒雲在不斷地變幻著形態。看，那不是爹在躬身犁地麼？不，像是在推車。哦，還有媽，多像拖著病體在地裏勞作的媽媽呀！還看得見她那飄動的白髮……

　　十二天后的上午。天晴得真好。人不覺得太熱，暖得很。放學時，老師叫住他，遞給他一張紙。看到那張紙的瞬間，他一陣眩暈。他的心在顫，手在抖， 一張年輕堅毅的方臉痛苦地扭曲著，強忍的眼淚還是泉涌出而。淚珠濺落在匯款單上，打濕了附言欄中那兩行小字：有個好心人給咱家寄了些錢，給你一百。要學好 吃好，家裏平安，別挂心。

I'm Not a Plastic Bag from Anya Hindmarch

It is such a famous bag. Anya Hindmarch's "I'm not a plastic bag" has made lot of women in this world gone crazy. I have to say it is mainly because of the designer brand and celebrities effect.

The "I'm not a plastic bag" was co-created by We Are What We Do and UK handbag designer Anya Hindmarch. This campaign is to make the awareness of "Say No to Plastic Bag". It first came out in March this year in Anya Hindmarch's shops in the UK. And also on We Are What We Do website. In April, it was on sale in the big supermarket chain Sainsbury's. The bags flied out the shops and sold out in 2 hours. Now a limited edition of different colour bags are available for people outside UK. The colours are brown (original), green, blue and grey.

I am one of the lucky ones who are able to get hold of this bag in blue via We Are What We Do. To be honest, before I knew about this bag and campaign, I was already using cotton shopper bags (some of them made by my mum) instead of plastic bags. I remember at the beginning, the cashier at the shops looked shocked when I said "I don't need a bag, thanks!" and they said to me "Are you sure?"

I am so happy now people are more aware of this issue and try to reuse and refuse plastic bags.

Pandas in Hong Kong - Le Le, Ying Ying, An An and Jia Jia 大熊貓-樂樂,盈盈,安安和佳佳

To celebrate the Hong Kong SAR 10th anniversary, the two giant pandas Le Le and Ying Ying were given as a gift from the Central government to Hong Kong.

On 1st of July, they were first been viewed by public at Ocean Park. They lives with the Hong Kong first pair of Pandas An An and Jia Jia.

The 1st July 2007 is the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HK SAR).

There was a large firework display over Victoria Harbour to celebrate this milestone of Hong Kong.

Hooray! Smoke Free England - 1st July

A Healthier England from 1st July 2007. The law making virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England smokefree. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland already have similar bans in place.

I love it! I love it! I love it! I am soooooo happy. No more secondhand smoke. My hair and clothes will still smell fresh after I have been to a pub, restaurant, etc.

My birth place, Hong Kong is already smoke free since 1st January 2007. Hooray!

Goodbye Granddad. I'll miss you.

Today is Father's Day so I phoned home and spoke to my parents.

Got a bad new from my mum. Granddad has passed away. He spent most of last two months in the hospital and on Thursday 14 June he left us.

阿公你好好安息。我會永遠懷念你。我愛你。

My First Message

I am so excited. This is my first posting. I will try my best to keep my blog up to date.

My boss is working from home today due to the snow which affected the train service between London and Brighton.

I will be interviewing several people next week. It is going to be my first time. I am a bit nervous about this. Hopefully I will find someone good.
